See What’s Coming Soon!

This made my day today. I received this note from the Minister for Small Business, thanking me for my volunteer work mentoring small and medium-sized businesses in New Zealand.

This recognition was more than just a pleasant surprise; it was a timely reminder to me of the power of being seen and appreciated. This simple note made me smile – ALL DAY 🙂

I then turned my mind to our Marketing and Communications profession. Our role can be misunderstood, stereotyped and undervalued, seen as merely a support function rather than a strategic partner vital to the success of any organisation.

Yet, we know our work does so much more than just “sell” or “promote.” We build bridges between our brands and our audiences, craft narratives that inspire and build trust and reputation, and drive strategies that lead to cultural alignment and tangible business improvement.

Being recognised for our team and organisational contributions can significantly impact our sense of belonging, purpose and fulfilment. It reinforces the value of our work and encourages us to continue striving for excellence.

But it’s not just about external recognition. It’s also about nurturing an attitude of gratitude within ourselves and our teams.

Gratitude plays a crucial role in all aspects of our professional and personal journey. By appreciating the opportunities we have, the support we receive, and the challenges we overcome, we remain in a more positive headspace that enhances our wellbeing and productivity, at work and at home.

It inspires us to reach new heights and acts as a strong ‘buffer’ against stress and burnout when the reactive slog seems never-ending.

And we can’t afford to leave this responsibility to others. Taking a moment each day costs us nothing yet means everything to those that receive it.

So, I’d like to take a moment to recognise each and every one of you, the invaluable role you play in your organisations and to thank you all for your support on my own journey as Turas.

It’s your journey – travel it well with Turas.
