DOES YOUR EMOTIONAL HOME NEED RENOVATING?

Emotions are understandably high right now. It got me thinking about the idea of ‘your emotional home’ and its role in helping you master challenge and change.

No surprise I’m sure – it’s all about your journey within. Tony Robbins recently said: ‘Emotions? They’re the ultimate resource.” My initial thought was really? Bear with me.

YOUR EMOTIONAL HOME DAY-TO-DAY
Think about your day-to-day decisions:

Every morning, you’re choosing where to focus your energy, and that choice comes with a feeling, right?

Then, you’re attaching meaning to whatever life throws at you, which pretty much decides how you’re going to feel about it.

Finally, you’re figuring out how to react and what to do next – and that, is the emotion that shapes your journey.

HOW PATTERNS AND STORIES FILL YOUR ‘HOME’
Let’s rewind a bit. During those first 7 years of life, you were busy laying the foundations of your emotional home. That’s where all those stories you tell yourself come from, like “I’m not enough” or “I can’t control anything.”

BUT HERE’s WHAT’S GREAT: you’re not stuck with those stories. Nope, you’ve got the power to rewrite them.

RENOVATING YOUR EMOTIONAL HOME
So, how do you start making real changes?

1. Take a moment to tune into your feelings – the good, the bad, and the ugly. May take a minute but persevere.

2. Then pick out the ones that seem to pop up the most. Those are your PATTERNS, the ones that are driving your journey, whether you realise it or not.

3. Now dream a little. Ask yourself which 1-2 NEW emotions would make a real difference to your journey. Take charge of those new feelings and stories and put them in the ‘driving seat’ and use them to fill your tank when your resources feel low. If the old ones come back, kick them out the car!

MY EMOTIONAL HOME
Here’s my list: I’m all about passion, excitement, confidence and joy, but sometimes fear of failure, overwhelm, and guilt sneak in. So, I’m making a pact with myself to focus on confidence and gratitude every single day.

In a nutshell, spending time renovating the foundations of your ’emotional home’ is about steering your journey in the direction you want it to go.
